The healthcare industry is one of Europe's largest and fastest growing industries and has to comply with many European directives and regulations. Compliance with Community Acquis, however, is a difficult task for SME's and often requires considerable investment in time, human resources and finances in order to fulfill all obbligations.

The new member states Bulgaria and Romania and the candidate countries Croatia and Turkey face obstacles in adopting and adapting to the Community Acquis related to the healthcare industry.
